This remains an exciting development. Before you could literally bet on NBA summer league games and now you can piece together a roster made up of your top NBA DFS summer league picks.
There is admittedly a lot of risk here. Some of the top stars in the player pool won’t even play, some are hurt and others will play sporadically. There are undrafted guys or veterans trying to earn their way back into the NBA, too, and everyone needs to be considered.
DraftKings makes this all possible and the player pricing is actually really smart and competitive. You don’t have to agree with my opinions or daily fantasy basketball summer league picks, but hopefully I shed a little light on how you can map out a winning roster.
In the NBA and G-League world there isn´t much time to dream and get caught up and be distracted by all the legends walking around, but just focus on the game. That is something that Bonga has surprisingly done well despite the tender age of only 18 years. He had a non spectacular Summer league playing 7 games averaging 2.1ppg, 1.0rpg. NBA DFS action on Thursday, Jan. 28, locks at 7:30 p.m. EST with a fun four-game main slate. Before you lock in your lineups on DraftKings, FanDuel, Yahoo and SuperDraft, make sure to check out Awesemo’s daily fantasy basketball rankings and projections. Let’s dig into some NBA DFS picks, including Damian Lillard, Anthony Davis, Enes.
Here’s some of my favorite plays for a loaded 10-game slate on Friday night:
PG: Elie Okobo – Phoenix Suns ($4k)
Remember, as appealing as some studs are and as tempting as some cheap plays are, it’s going to be very difficult to know who plays and how much.
That being said, Okobo has signed his rookie deal and is slated to play in Phoenix’s summer league games. If that’s the case, he’s way too cheap and is a core play for any NBA DFS summer league lineups I piece together.
Arguably a first round talent, France’s Okobo was an early second round pick and may be out to prove he deserves a key role with the Suns in year one. He’s not exactly elite, but he can push the pace, create and score. He’s a solid all-around player and I wouldn’t be shocked if he dominates summer league.
SG: Donte DiVincenzo – Milwaukee Bucks ($6.9k)
Draftkings Picks Nfl
A lot of people felt like DiVincenzo was a reach by the Bucks at 17th overall, but he can’t really help that Villanova restricted his upside in a bench role. He happened to thrive in that role and blew up in last year’s national title game.
He’s an explosive, versatile and supremely athletic guard who can stroke it from deep, create, rebound and score at will. His skill-set makes him an elite value play when you look at the top rookies worth paying for on Friday’s NBA summer league slate.
Of course the guy in my title for today is unlikely to play due to a previously undisclosed injury. You are not going to get a heads up like this every time in NBA summer league, so be thankful we got it when we did. He’s not going to be an option today, but you can consider dropping to Phoenix’s Mikal Bridges ($6.7k). He was a stud at Villanova just like Donte and figures to be a fine play.
Nba Summer League Draftkings Picks
SF: Melvin Frazier – Orlando Magic ($4.8k)
Frazier is probably one of the top second round value picks of the 2018 NBA Draft, as he’s a freak athlete and has immense upside as a defender. Some feel that Orlando got a great steal in round two and at worst, the Magic may have a future slam dunk winner on their hands.
I love the value here, assuming Orlando unleashes Frazier for big minutes on Friday. The concern is baked into the price, though, making him a high upside play.
PF: Henry Ellenson – Detroit Pistons ($7.1k)
If not now, then when? Ellenson has torn up the summer league in the past, but has yet to officially carve out a regular role with the Pistons. The sharpshooting big man can dominate on offense, but probably needs another strong showing in the summer to move the needle for a new regime.
Ellenson isn’t cheap, but he offers value compared to some pricier big man options on Friday.
C: DeAndre Ayton – Phoenix Suns ($9k)
Ayton has been dealing with back soreness, but all signs point to the #1 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft suiting up for the Suns’ first NBA summer league game on Friday. He was a beast at Arizona and has the size, athleticism and overall skill-set to wreck immediately.
If you’re a bit gun shy because you feel Phoenix holds him back, consider pivoting down to Mohamed Bamba.
G: Jordan Howard – Golden State Warriors ($4.7k)
The Dubs don’t have a star-studded offense on paper, but it’s actually an underrated group. Howard is part of that, as he averaged over 25 points per game in his final year of college ball and dropped 12 points in his first summer league showing.
He’s a threat to blow up on Friday and at this price, he’s a low-risk, high upside NBA DFS summer league pick.
Nba Summer League Draftkings Picks Against
F: Dzana Musa – Brooklyn Nets ($5.5k)
Musa just had his overseas deal terminated, so he should be free to suit up for the Nets summer league squad. Musa is really thin, but he could instantly make an impact due to his overall scoring ability. He can knock down the three and create for himself, which could make him a fun sleeper if he’s aggressive on Friday.
Util: Mohamed Bamba – Orlando Magic ($8k)
I could pivot off of Ayton to Bamba, but I want both of these guys. Orlando should want to see what they have in the former Texas stud. At the very worst, he can rack up rebounds and blocks, while something tells me he could dominate summer league talent down low on offense as well.
Overall, this is just a lineup featuring some of my favorite picks. It sounds like Luka Doncic hasn’t been fully cleared to play, while I’m not sure I’m pending top dollar on Dennis Smith Jr. ($9.9k!) with all the other value I see here.
One way to shake this roster up would be to fade Ayton. Bamba could take his place at the center spot and you could use guys like Collin Sexton, Malik Monk or Josh Jackson as fine alternative options. More than anything, you’re just going to need to head to Twitter and read local team newspapers/online resources to gauge who is a lock to play on any given NBA DFS summer league slate.
I like all of these options and if they’re all lined up to hit the hardwood, this looks like a pretty stacked squad. Hopefully it helps you cash on Friday, but no matter what you decide, I wish you luck!
